The Anaconda Plan

Winfield Scott

The Anaconda Plan was a plan to win the Civil War without losing a lot of soldiers. It was devised by Winfield Scott to aid the Union. The plan involved cutting off the Confederacy's supplies via blockades at sea and control of the Mississippi River. If they held blockades at sea it would cut off trade and supply ships from getting into the South. If they controlled the Mississippi it would split up the South into east and west and that way the South couldn't spread supplies around.
