runaway slaves

Harriet Tubmin was a brave woman, she use to be a slave, but then she escaped. After she escaped she went back to her hometown and helped other slaves run away. She was a very inportant person in the underground railroad. She helped run it and many people escaped on it.
The slaves in the picture next to the text are slaves who Harriet helped ascape .She helped lots of people get away from there slave owners. Harriet is a famouse escape slave along with Fredrick Douglas,Nat Turner, Ellen and William Craft. Fredrick Douglas also helped free slaves and he too was hung.

Frederick Douglas was not hanged (correct form of the verb). He was the first great black statesman and a confidant of people such as Lincoln and Seward.
