Most women would stay home and watch over the farm and children but some were able to actually be in the war either by dressing up as men and going off to fight in the war or maybe becoming a nurse and if they were really lucky then they might become spies. 

                                                                               

                                                                                                                                                                                  

Because of their husbands not being there to help support them and their family and the need for workers in factories most women would get a job to help with supporting their family but if a man had worked half the time a women did then he'd still get paid more.
